Omokoroa Community Foodbank

We love to give and so we especially love to help those going through a difficult time or who are struggling to make ends meet. Through the generosity of so many in our local area, the Omokoroa Community Foodbank is able to provide just some of the basics that can make all the difference to a family (or individual!) and help them get through the week with full tummies and good hygiene essentials.

We endeavour to meet local needs as they become known to us and often pool resources with the Tauranga Foodbank to assist the wider Tauranga area.

Our generous suppliers

We would especially like to acknowledge the support of Fresh Choice Omokoroa and The Ōmokoroa Volunteer Fire Brigade & First Responders, without whose support we could not operate as generously as we do.

Cyberlink Omokoroa also organise an annual food bank drive in December each year which sees individuals, local sporting groups and community groups knocking door to door to collect non-perishable food and consumables for the Foodbank. It is so wonderful to see the whole community pitch in to support others in our neighbourhood.

Pahoia School Community Garden supplies the Foodbank with fresh fruit and veges every Monday morning; and every Thursday morning we have a variety of food kindly donated by ‘Good Neighbour’. There is usually a supply of bread, fruit, vegetables, salad greens and sometimes eggs. If you know of a family or neighbour who can benefit from these generous donations, please spread the word or come down and help yourselves.

To donate or contribute food

Items of food can be placed in the baskets at both Sunday services or in the Foodbank collection receptacle at Fresh Choice supermarket.

Cash donations for the Foodbank may be placed in a clearly marked envelope in the offering collection bag during both Sunday services.

Remember it’s not just food we need. Toilet paper; washing powders; washing liquid/tablets; kitchen towels; personal hygiene products are all needed too.

The items we run out of most often are toiletries (shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, etc), as well as pasta, pasta sauce, meat sauces, biscuits, jams, spreads.

Thank you for your support of those in need.

For enquiries, please contact Christine Grainger or the church office.
