About Us

We are a community church that strives to honour the Scriptures and submit to their authority. Our goal is to nurture a caring and growing, vibrant Christian community where people are free to find and worship Jesus Christ and let His Spirit inspire them to wholeness of body, mind, and spirit.

We operate two Sunday services that each offer different styles of worship. Our 8:30am service follows the traditional Anglican style with hymns and Holy Communion. Our 10am service is more contemporary with less of a formal structure, modern songs, and a children’s programme.

Our Mission

To live by faith, be known by love, and be a voice of hope

We love encouraging people to discover, nurture, and use their God-given, natural talents and spiritual gifts to serve God’s Kingdom.

We believe this is why we are created and it’s where we find our deepest satisfaction. Doing life together in a faith community is so important. We would love to share our lives with you.

Our Team

The Omokoroa Community Church is an independent, evangelical church. The governing body is Parish Council and comprises members elected from the congregation at the Annual General Meeting. Each individual member serves for a term of three years.

Parish Council is responsible for the spiritual welfare and the oversight of the business and practical matters of the church. Meetings are held on the last Wednesday of each month and minutes of the meetings are available in the church foyer for those interested.

Statement of Faith

Outlining the fundamental beliefs of Omokoroa Community Church.

We Believe In:

1. The Unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in the Godhead.

2. The Sovereignty of God in creation, revelation, redemption and final judgement.

3. The divine inspiration and trustworthiness of Holy Scripture, as originally given, and its supreme authority in all matters of faith, practice and conduct.

4. The orthodox, traditional interpretation of scripture in all matters of sexuality: believing in the sanctity of marriage; that it is ordained by God and described by Jesus as a sacred and lifelong bond between a man and a woman. (Matthew 19:5-6)

5. The universal sinfulness and guilt of human nature since the fall, rendering man subject to God’s judgement and condemnation.

6. Redemption from the guilt, penalty, and the power of sin only through the sacrificial death of the Lord Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God.

7. The indwelling working of the Holy Spirit received at conversion in the individual’s life to bring about sanctification and reconciliation to God by repentance and faith in Christ alone.

8. The indwelling and sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit in the believer, developing spiritual gifts in each individual in their personal ministry to the Lord.

9. The Deity and Humanity of Jesus Christ; His bodily resurrection from the dead; His ascension; His mediatorial work and His future personal return in power and glory.

10. The One, Holy, Universal Church, which is the Body of Christ, to which all true believers belong and in which they are united through the Holy Spirit, and the importance of the church in the life of the individual.

11. The bodily resurrection of the dead and life everlasting.

12. Christ’s Great Commission “to go and make disciples of all nations” as expressed in Matthew 28:18-20.

13. That by faith alone, in Jesus alone, we are saved; not by good works, but that good works are a natural outcome and expression of faith.

14. The sanctity of life and that God determines the length of our days. (Psalm 39:16)

15. That God has not replaced His Chosen people, the Jews, by the Gentiles, but rather has made salvation possible, through the death and resurrection of Jesus, for both Jew and Gentile alike.

Our Values

Omokoroa Community Church guiding values.

Our chief aim is to love and glorify God.

Jesus’ first and greatest commandment is to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Matthew 22.37

“You shall have no other gods before me. Exodus 20:3

We seek to build Godly relationships that reflect a culture of care and encouragement.

Jesus’ second great commandment is to ‘Love your neighbour as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22.37

“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up”. 1 Thessalonians 5:11

“Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another.” James 4:11

“If your brother or sister sins against you, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. Matthew 18:15

We hold to the absolute truth and authority of the Bible in all matters of faith, practice and conduct.

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16.

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” Matt 24:35

We seek to live in peace and harmony, honouring those who faithfully serve the Lord, and forgiving those who sin against us.

“Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness” James3:18

“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins” Matthew 6:15

We believe in the power of prayer and commit our ways to Him, trusting God for guidance.

“In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.” Proverbs 3.5

“Without faith it is impossible to please God.” Hebrews11:6

We hold fast to a culture of honesty and integrity and are committed to faithful stewardship of resources.

“He that is faithful in that which is least, is faithful also in much.” Luke 16:10

“Whoever walks in integrity will be delivered.” Proverbs 28:18

Jesus came not to be served but to serve. Let our service be pleasing to God and a blessing to others.

“Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus who being in very nature God made Himself nothing…He humbled Himself and became obedient to death, even death on the Cross.” Phil 2: 5-8

“Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” Romans 12:13

We are committed to discipline and self-control in our personal and corporate lives.

“It is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy”. 1 Corinthians 4:2

“The wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. James 3:17

Our History

Learn about the background of Omokoroa Community Church.

Since 1972 the Omokoroa Community Church has played a central part in the community of Omokoroa. As a cooperating Parish the OCC has worked hard to encompass the theologies of the Anglican, Methodist and Presbyterian churches drawing on the similarities and celebrating the differences. Our mission statement “To live by faith, be known by love, and be a voice of hope” underlines the heart of being located in a small community, the need to minister and care for one another and to be a place of refuge and hope.

The Omokoroa Community Church is situated midway along the peninsula across the road from the harbour and down the hill from the school. Opened in 2002, the church is reasonably modern and can comfortably accommodate 200 people in the auditorium. The auditorium boasts a full sound system including audio loop. The church also has a fully equipped commercial kitchen which is often used for catering purposes. There is also a large hall and a well-equipped office which is open five mornings a week. Most parish fellowship activities occur in the hall which also has a data projector and small sound system. The hall is used extensively by both parish and community groups.
